Career planning is one of the most important exercises that you should go through. It may seem tedious, but it just might save you from feeling stuck in a job that you hate. The career planning process consists of three basic steps as outlined in the diagram to the right. At the end of each stage you may want to backtrack to re-evaluate answers you previously listed.
Although this process is primarily designed for people who are not sure of what they want to do, or are considering a career change, it will also be valuable to those of you who already know what career to pursue. This procedure will help you know yourself and in the process increase your self-confidence. By completing the exercises in Step 1 (Looking Inward), you will become more aware of your skills, abilities, and interests, and thus be better able to target your job search and resume, as well as improve your interviewing skills.
