Follow-up Letter
Follow-up letters
can be used
to obtain further information from an employer, to confirm the
interview time, or simply to thank an interviewer for their time and
consideration.
A
thank you/follow-up letter should include information to do the
following:
- Thank
the interviewer for taking the time to meet with you or provide you
with more information.
- Expresses
that you would like to hear from them as soon as possible.
- Ensures
that the interviewer remembers you.
- Reaffirms
your interest in the company and why you are suitable for the position.
- Answers
any questions and gives additional information that was not provided in
the interview.
- If
the interviewer is
torn in deciding between yourself and another applicant, a follow-up
letter may be just the item to tip the scale in your favour.
If you know that
the decision
about who will be called for an interview will be made very
soon,
you may want to send the letter overnight or express. Although this may
cost you anywhere from $4 to $15 (depending on the service you choose
and the distance of the delivery), if this is your dream job, it is
worth it.
Remember to send a thank-you letter after every interview!
Now that you have read all
about how to write these letters, it is time to see some examples. The
following examples are based on real letters of job seekers just like
you. However, names and addresses have been changed. Please note that
these samples have been provided so that you can get ideas on layout
and how to put together your own letters. DO NOT copy these
and
simply insert your own information. Create your own from scratch so
that it is a reflection of who you are and so that it is targeted to
the position you are applying for.
