Follow-up Letter

Follow-up letters can be used to obtain further information from an employer, to confirm the interview time, or simply to thank an interviewer for their time and consideration.

A thank you/follow-up letter should include information to do the following: If you know that the decision about who will be called for an  interview will be made very soon, you may want to send the letter overnight or express. Although this may cost you anywhere from $4 to $15 (depending on the service you choose and the distance of the delivery), if this is your dream job, it is worth it.

Remember to send a thank-you letter after every interview!

Now that you have read all about how to write these letters, it is time to see some examples. The following examples are based on real letters of job seekers just like you. However, names and addresses have been changed. Please note that these samples have been provided so that you can get ideas on layout and how to put together your own letters. DO NOT copy these  and simply insert your own information. Create your own from scratch so that it is a reflection of who you are and so that it is targeted to the position you are applying for.

Dear Ms. Tobian,

I am writing to thank you for the opportunity to meet with you this morning.

I feel that I am well qualified for this position as I have training in finance and a strong understanding of general business operations. I have great appreciation for small business as a result of my work experience. This experience will allow me to be understanding of clients’ needs and thus, motivated to develop loan plans that can be customized to match their requirements.

As a result of the interview, I have learned of the many long-term opportunities within your firm. In addition to the fact that this position would provide me with experience in the financial services industry, the summer assistant position will also give me exposure to the management consulting services that you offer. I am very interested in working in the management services area in the long run.

I am also pleased to know that this position will allow me to take on increasing responsibilities as my knowledge and training builds. It is very important to me that a position allow me to continually develop and acquire skills.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to meet with me this morning. I look forward to the possibility of working with you this summer.

Good wishes,
