Ms. Kelly Wilkins
Human Resources Generalist
EXJ Canada Limited
17983 – 103 Ave.
Edmonton, AB T5J 1S4

Dear Ms. Wilkins,

I am writing to apply for the position of Special Projects Intern with EXJ Canada Ltd.. Currently, I am in the Co-operative Education Program in the Faculty of Business at the University of Alberta. This position interests me because of the diversity and challenges that I believe it will offer.

Having worked in an understaffed, small business environment, my ability to work under strict time pressures has been significantly developed. A further indication of my time management skills is that I am currently a full time student, working part time, and also actively involved with the Women in Business Association. In addition, I have learned to adapt to customers’ varying needs and have worked extensively with tourists. As Assistant Manager, I trained employees assertively and monitored their performance. As a result of these diverse experiences with varying clientele, my communication and interpersonal skills are well developed.

My analysis and decision making skills are illustrated by a recommendation that I made to the President of Ruman's (Retail) regarding product mix in one of the retail outlets. I realized that watch sales of a particular high profit margin line had decreased as a result of a new lower priced watch line. I presented this information to the owner, and suggested that the lower priced line be phased out, since overall profit from watch sales was lower than when the line was not carried. This decision has recently been implemented.

I believe that I am a qualified candidate for this position because I have comprehensive research and analysis skills that would benefit your firm.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. Enclosed is a copy of my resume and transcripts. I look forward to meeting you to further discuss the possibility of employment.

With best wishes,

Mary Jamison

Dear Mr. Hinkelman,

I would like to be considered for a teaching position with the Calgary Public School Board. In December, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree from the University of Calgary with a focus in teaching French as a second language.

My thirteen week field experience was unique. I had placements at two different schools. At my first placement, I had the opportunity to observe kindergarten through grade five. I taught extensively at the kindergarten and grade 1 levels. I also had the chance to teach FSL to grades three, four and five students. My second placement was at a division one school where I spent the mornings in a grade 1 classroom and had the privilege of teaching in a Special Education classroom during the afternoons. There, I taught individual groups of students at their relevant educational capacities. At both schools, I participated in school activities, joined and created student clubs, organized a successful school wide activity and took part in various professional development day workshops.

I have had many years of experience working with children of all ages, most of which have been volunteer opportunities as outlined in my resume. These opportunities have helped me to further develop my management and organizational skills. They have also allowed me the opportunities to teach children in various living and working conditions.

In order to promote my language learning, I spent two summers in the Province of Quebec where I participated in a French Immersion Language Bursary Program. There, I took university level French courses and had an opportunity to associate with the Francophone community and culture.

In the future, I hope to volunteer my time to teach children in developing countries. I am also interested in helping to develop relevant material and curricula for division one school children.

If further information is required I can be contacted at 222-1111. Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to hearing from you and commencing my teaching career.

With great enthusiasm,

Fiona Pilone
